Get geared up once again!

Monday, September 28th, 2009

First of all Congrats to Scott Schraff for his 5th place finish at the ITU World Duathlon Championships.  There are very few words to describe a huge achievement by him while representing HAUS TRIATHLON and the USA…

What a great showing by HAUS TRIATHLON at Nathans Tempe Triathlon. HAUS TRI members continude to gear up for upcoming Soma Half Iron and AZ Ironman by braving the 105 degree weather, 84 degree water borne-illness-containing Tempe Town Lake temps, and a bumper car like atmosphere on the bike course.  Whew…we did it all! Chelsea’s Run 9/13

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Hey Everyone,

Our dear friend Chelsea is following her heart and mind.  She is leaving us to live with her new fiancee Matt and to work at a fantastic firm in Corpus Christi, TX.  Since we met Chelsea back when Julie and I coached 1st Marathon, we thought it was fitting to have one final run with her before she leaves next week.

Please join us this Sunday from Scottsdale Running Company

Located on Hayden and Indian Bend
6:30 am meet to run at 6:45am
We were thinking a hour, but I’m sure there will be longer and shorter options.

And of course we’ll have to go for Pumpkin Spice Latte’s after!!
So, if you can’t make the run, join for coffee around 8am at the Starbucks on Indian Bend, just west of the 101.

Think About Your Training

•What mental preparation do you do?
•Do you set goals?
•Do you think about how to deal with waning motivation?
•How do you deal with anxiety?
•How do you sharpen your focus?
Begin to pay attention to your thoughts before, during and after your athletic endeavors and try this exercise: After you’ve become aware of any negative thoughts, focus on them and try to use them during your next run. Pay attention to how you feel mentally and physically. Then on a subsequent run, change any negative thoughts into something positive, and remember to smile. Remind yourself that this is for fun. Again, pay attention to how you feel mentally and physically, and compare the two. I guarantee you will feel better after the second experience.

This will give you a basic, simple experience with sports psychology. Hopefully it will bring an awareness of its importance–and of the impact it can have on your performance.
