HAUS rides the waves in San Diego

What a weekend for HAUS TRIATHLON…

This weekend HAUS TRIATHLON competed in the San Diego International Triathlon in California. HAUS TRIATHLON represented themselves well this weekend…

Scott Schraff continued his tear on the triathlon world as he pulled another 3rd place age group finish in the International distance. He was one out of 68 competitors in his age group. So far on his TRI journey with HAUS TRIATHLON, Scott has yet to finish out of the top three! Scott is gearing down for ITU DUAHTLON WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS on September 26 in Concord N.C. http://www.usatriathlon.org/event/event/1072 .

Julie Forsberg brought home the jewelery in her age group with a FIRST PLACE finish in her age group.  This is Julies first time placing in her age group and she brought home the gold in the sprint division! Looks like that speedwork paid off! ;) Julie edged her closest competitor by 38 seconds.

Christian Bailey also competed in the sprint division with a FIRST PLACE finish in his age group. Christian found the hills to be less challenging than he thought thanks to good advice from Specialized D4W/Bicycle Haus Cycling Team member Kim Cole. A great bike split helped Christian to finish over 12 minutes ahead of his second place competitor.

Nancy Brown brought her busy life with kids and a swim program to test the waters in San Diego. Nancy dominated the swim and came through with a 5th place finish in her age group. While peeping the view at the top of Cabrillo Point on her bike, she blew by the other 8 competitors behind her.

Jill Culiver put together a solid race from start to finish. After wrangling her daughter Carsen to the floor several times during the previous day, Jill put together an 11th place finish in her age group.  Jill showed great poise on the run, only being edged by seconds off her next competitor.

Ramsey “Rambo” Jabro was unreal in this race. Ramsey came in with a killer mental game, noting that his swim was like “a hot knife through butter”.  Ramsey finished 7th in his age group and a mere minute off his nearest competitor who was also from Arizona.  Huge up to Ramsey who also saved Christian and Julies lives near the CA state prison facility.

The unofficial – official relay of Bernice, Leah, and Val…also proved to be a tough competitor as they did all they could to take down or maim any competitor in their way. :)

San Diego proved to be way too much fun for anyone…great results and great fun had by all! The HAUS TRIATHLON team is gearing up for Mtn. Man in Flagstaff. The next HAUS TRI TEAM race is Nathans Temp Tri on September 27th, followed by SOMA Half Iron on October 25.

Train hard, have fun, and race HAUS!

What is a BRICK?

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Okay,

I got this question several times this week as to what BRICK workout is and should you do it. So here is a little triathlon 101 for ya from COACH :) .

A BRICK workout is a combination of swim/bike or bike/run interval. You can do a run/bike interval if you are training for a duathlon but the above two are the most popular. If you have been to our TRANSITION WORKOUTS then that is exactly what you are doing. It is a shortened version of your triathlon, ideally 10-30% of the actual event distance.  It gives your body a chance to experience the transition from each event and allows you to start manipulating how fast or slow you want to start out.

The most popular is the swim/bike brick.  An example of a BRICK workout looks like this:

3 x (500m swim + 5 mile bike) with a 3 minutes recovery (or the time it takes you to put your bike away)

Yes, you should be incorporating some type of BRICK workout into your week. Start into them slowy. If you choose to incorporate the bricks begin by running a 1/4 or 1/2 mile after each run or swim to see what you legs feel like. You can start by walking and then jog into it. Then move into doing the full workout as your days workout. It is an awesome way to increase your triathlon fitness and gain some muscle memory for those transition.
